Oficinas do Convento (Covent Workshops) is a self managed cultural organisation in Montemor-o-Novo, Portugal. It acts as a production centre, with workshops and collective projects that are presented after conclusion or as work-in-progress to the small city’s public. The value such an initiative cannot be quantified, for its benefits go beyond the production of cultural goods. It empowers citizens, brings tradition into contemporary culture and brings people together to a region that starts feeling reinvigorated by the flow of something as important and sometimes underrated as culture.
